Here's how to tackle hair loss.

Women reveal what it's like to experience hair loss.

s characterized by excessive daily hair fall with more hairs falling out when

women shampoo or brush/style their hair. It can take 8-12 weeks for hair to fall

out after a triggering event.

There are numerous causes of hair loss from such causes as hormonal issues,

certain types of hair styling that can cause hair loss over time, systemic diseases

such as thyroid gland problems, lupus and others.

Extreme mental or physical stress (childbirth, surgery and illness) and certain

medications or nutritional deficiencies can also cause hair loss.

Here’s our list of 10 solutions to help reduce or deal with hair loss.

1_Style Your Hair Right

Ask your stylist or dermatologist for recommendations about the products and

strategies that will work best for you.

A new haircut or hairstyle may be just what you need to make your hair appear

fuller. Ask your stylist for advice about getting a shorter cut, parting your hair in

a different location, or adding curls or waves to add volume to your hair.

Products for hair loss in women include using styling products designed for thin

hair. Some products are added to the roots while hair is damp before blowing dry.

Some cosmetic products can help disguise the appearance of bald spots.

Skip tight braids or ponytails that may pull on hair at the root and potentially lead

to excessive shedding. While you’re at it, let your hair air dry to avoid irritating

your scalp.

2 _Regularly wash your hair with mild shampoo

Regular hair washing is a part of preventing hair loss by the way of keeping hair

and scalp clean. Doing so, you are lowering the risk of infections and dandruff

that may lead to hair breakage or loss. Moreover, clean hair gives the impression

of more volume.

3. Mediterranean diet

A 2018 study revealed that a diet containing raw vegetables and fresh herbs, like

the Mediterranean diet, may reduce the risk of androgenic alopecia (female

pattern baldness or male pattern baldness) or slow its onset.

Best results were observed when participants consumed high amounts of these

foods — such as parsley, basil, salad greens — more than three days a week.

4_Keep yourself hydrated

The hair shaft comprises one quarter water so drink at least four to eight cups of

water in a day to stay hydrated and for the growth of healthy hair.

5 _Saw palmetto

Derived from the fruit of American dwarf pine trees, this herb may help men

maintain levels of testosterone. One 2004 journal article revealed that some 60

percent of participants taking saw palmetto experienced improved hair growth.

The dosage in the study was 200 milligrams daily.

6 _De-stress

Studies in the past have found medical evidence to link stress with hair loss. De-

stress yourself; one of the ways of doing it is by practicing meditation.

Alternative therapies such as meditation and yoga not only reduce stress but

restores hormonal balance.

7 _Avoid Smoking

Smoking cigarettes reduces the amount of blood that flows to the scalp and this

causes a reduction in hair growth.

8 _Physical activity

Make time for physical activity every day. Walk, swim or bike for 30 minutes a

day helps balance hormonal levels, reducing stress levels besides reducing hair

fall.

9 _Keep a watch on medication

Certain medications may have side-effects, one of which could be hair loss.

Consult a doctor to ask about conditions that you may have. Let him know if the

medication is causing hair loss and if that is the case, ask him to change the

medication.

10 _Keep away from chemicals

Harsh chemicals and permanent hair colour products could be damaging for hair

health. When you are experiencing hair loss, it is advised not to colour your hair.
