The Jarlsberg Monte Cristo sandwich




_ INGREDIENTS

150 mL (2/3 cup) milk

4 eggs

8 slices of white loaf bread

A pinch salt

8 slices of ham

60 mL (1/4 cup) butter, divided

500 mL (2 cups) coarsely shredded Jarlsberg, divided

8 small sage leaves

Whisk eggs, milk, and salt in a bowl. Set aside. 

Place bread slices on a cutting board. 

Divide 310 mL (1½ cups) Jarlsberg cheese onto bread slices. Lay two 

slices of ham on four of the bread slices. Close with remaining four 

slices to make sandwiches.

Briefly soak each side of each sandwich in reserved egg mixture. 

Garnish one side with two sage leaves and sprinkle with some 

cheese. 

Grill each sandwich over low heat for 3 to 4 minutes per side, or until 

crisp and golden.
